Hi John,
I ordered it from the UK since it doesn't seem to be available in the USA
anymore. And the guy selling them in oz is on holidays until 11Dec. Plus
he only sells the box whereas Lester Caine sells a machined box.
Not that I couldn't make the box myself but I want to see how the basic kit
comes together so I can decide if I want to do the same with the Electronic
Leadscrew (ELS) which has become more and more complicated lately. My
keypad has button extensions that I machined on my Unimat out of acrylic.
Perhaps the Gingery Injection molding project could be built to make these
faster. Or CNC on the lathe. The alternative is a separate keyboard which
increases the cost for people.
I think with overseas shipping, box, circuit board, overlay for mill it came
to 55 GBP which will be $130Cdn or so. I can program the PICs myself and I
order from both Digikey and Mouser regularily so the parts costs are an
unknown. Especially since I have all the resistors etc. in stock.
The delay on putting MACH on the mill is that I don't have the funds for the
motors, drivers and pulleys/belts at the moment. I have a set of smaller
size 23's that were used in an XYZ system and will become a small Gantry CNC
settup.
I haven't decided to what level I will do things with the SouthBend 10L.
CNC or just ELS since using it with steppers on the leadscrew automatically
gives it a DRO.
