If you notice, most AWG ampacity charts will show open air and "in conduit"
ratings, the ratings inside conduit will be less than those in open air of
course. Also, ratings for DC will be somewhat different than those for AC in
many cases. I have always made it a rule to go one size over with wire when
designing machinery or when wiring in my home, just for safety's sake. The
extra cost of the wire isn't a lot more and the peace of mind is worth it.
Also, keep in mind that the number of wires you put in a conduit or other
enclosure where the wires are close to each other and parallel to each other also
has some effect on them
