28 Gage's limit is about 1.4 Amps -- you need to go to 24 Gage to handle 3.5
Amps and even then, I would bump it up to 16 as you will probably be using
stranded wire (less ampacity) and this gives you a nice buffer against
surges and overloads. You want the fuze to blow, not your cable.
Any electronic place will sell you a nice braided plastic sleeve that you
can slip your wires through to make a neat cable. Alternately, you can buy
50 feet of some multi-conductor and roll your own.
