Hi Vince
I don't know what a J head looks like, but I too am looking at building a
power draw bar from several sets of plans with a few mods, got all the
parts, still working on the mach3 conversion at present.
The designs I have use a butterfly air wrench and an air ram to lower the
wrench onto the top of the draw bar. In my case I want to do automatic tool
changing, the spindle will lower itself over a new tool, and the power draw
bar must engage on the draw bat with the spindle lowered. I am lengthening
the drawbar so it will stick out the top of the head, and using a long air
ram for the extra travel. I also have an indexing sensor on my spindle so I
can index the spindle by inching the inverter, and stopping with inverter
and spindle brake together.
All presently between theory and half build.
I assume your J head has it's brake coming out the top of the head so it
gets in the way of the mount for the power draw bar, in which case you will
need to redesign the mount to clear all this.

Subject: [CAD_CAM_EDM_DRO] Power draw bar
I am building a power draw bar from a set of plans and am wondering if
anyone with a Breidgeport J-head has installed one of these. It seems
that on the J-head the clutch lever and cam ring would get in the way.
The 2J head is different in this area. If anyone has pictures of an
installation on a J-head they would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Vince
