In the past I was told that almost all VFD's would run on single phase,
but you had to derate them. For a 5HP you would use a 7.5HP VFD. I
has been a couple of years since I have purchased a VFD for a 5HP
motor. I guess I will have to call our local sale rep about it. From
what I remember the cheapest 7.5HP I could find was running clost to
$1000.
