Look on ebay for a UK firm called Drives direct in Nottingham, run by the
family of a guy called David.
They exclusively offer Teco drives where they have the software to convert
larger three phase input VFDs to accept a single phase supply.
Many other larger drives can be converted by using an drive, feeding two
phase into two phases and making it think the third is present by
connecting it via a capacitor.
The over rating is to save the input rectifier which has to handle all power
down two lines instead of three.
Also some VFDs will only produce the same three phase output voltage as the
single supplied, i.e. 240V single in, 240V across the three phases out.
These are cheaper and you can often re configure a motor so this is ok (star
to delta). The Teco drives boost the voltage, you put 240 in and get 415
across the phases out, with a sine filter on the output you can run a
complete multiple machine shop from one inverter, and they come modified by
drives direct in very big sizes.
Mine is a 7.5Hp one which cost me £500, all other options were £850 plus. I
only run it to my 5HP spindle motor, but it is very good, and does just
about everything I could hope for.
Hope this helps

I am looking for a 5HP VFD that will take single phase input.
Automation directs drives stop at 3hp with single phase.
Thanks
Vince
