It might be !

You do have to bear in mind the speed rating of the standard bearings,
and numerous other details.

I run a VMC with a 6K rated spindle, this has a cartridge spindle
assembly with carefully preloaded bearings, it gets quite warm after a
few hours running.

Many of the spindles rated for higher rpm than mine also have chillers
to keep the temperature under control.

It's probably much safer to use a speed increaser designed for the job,
these seem to come up on ebay a fair bit.

Or even mount a small router on the quill.
