configuring computer for DRO

on 2000-07-27 17:52:51 UTC
The latest dilemma in my ongoing Bridgeport to CNC conversion project. I
have built one of Dan's DRO boards to use with my conversion since the
motors already have encoders and the closed loop operation sounds like
the way to go. The problem is that my computer setup does not want to
recognize the existance of the board in the ISA slot. The computer setup
is an IBM Thinkpad 166mhz and a docking station to give me the ISA
slots. The reason for the notebook is -space(lack of) and flying metal
chips and electronics.
The ThinkPad seems to want an address assigned to each ISA slot in the
docking station. It says to refer to the manual for the device that you
are using. The provided address 544 doesn't seem to be what this
computer wants to see. I think that I need an IRQ,I/O,DMA,MA. I really
don't know which of these addresses are needed. Upon reviewing the list
of system resources for the thinkpad, I noticed that none of the devices
use all of the addresses (irq,i/o,dma,ma).
Anyone have any idea what addresses are needed and some suggested
addresses. I can disable devices and use those addresses but I just
don't know what I need. I have e-mailed Tom K. but have not heard back
yet.
