Got it. That makes sense. I knew about using a ram edm to make the
starting hole, but I thought that was only for production work. I've had
one part wire EDM'd, it was a 3/8" square hole in a 2" long piece of CRS
(think of a female to female coupler for a 3/8" drive ratchet), but all I
did was drill a 5/16" hole through and then hand it off to another guy who
used the EDM. I know it uses really thin wire, but I thought it was like
threading a scrollsaw blade when doing scrollwork, where you just stick it
through. It makes sense that sometimes you'd want the hole to be not much
larger than the wire itself.
