Re: 3D scanners

Hi all
I dont think the hard part is building a 3d-scanner but converting
the pointcloud to mesh and then the mesh to nurbs or solids since
most cad-software only can deal with nurbs or solids.
Ive been looknig at 2 applications, Geomagic Studio 9 and Rapidform
XOR, none of them is cheap... And there not so easy to use either.
There is a plugin for Rhino called Rhinoreverse but I dont know how
it is to use or the quality in the surface it produces. Maybe its
easier and cheaper to buy the scanned files from the students models.
But it takes away the fun part of doing it ourself.
But maybe there is a easier way of converting the scanned data or
mesh to cad compatible files that I havent heard about?
Anybody know a different approach to the problem?
Best regards
