A 4 phase motor can be wired 2 different ways. Bipolar series, Bipolar parallel.
Wired bipolar series it can be used with a unipolar driver or in the case of the drivers I sent you, bipolar series. My driver would also use bipolar parallel .

OK I'm showing my ignorance (again). I acquired what look to be some nice
steppers out of a HD printer - 200 steps per rev, and look to be NEMA 23, 6
wire, and an ohm meter confirms 4 phases. Dan Mauch was kind enough to
donate a bipolar chopper board, for our school CNC router project. But I'm
more than a little confused about this 4 phase motor, which I have driven by
hand with a unipolar tester, and the bipolar driver board. Are they
incompatible, or am I missing something? Looks like I need to search for
bipolar motors, eh?
