John,
I have had very good success with the small trim routers/rotozip saw such as those offered by SEARS CRAFTSMAN, and BOSCH. The BOSCH COLT (PRO20EVSK) has a full 1HP in a variable speed package and is very compact in size and easy to mount. I have run a great deal of oak with my SEARS version of the rotozip trim router. I use a Vbit and cut up to .25" deep in oak at about 38~40 IPM. I think the SEARS router was about $79 as a package deal with several router bases, case, circle cutter etc.... Hard to beat the price. I have yet to mount the BOSCH unit but in manual use it has been a great and versatile unit
I took a look on sears.com and see that the version I have is no longer shown but this unit is very similiar: Sears item# 00917244000 Mfr. model# RZ01-12. Just look on the SEARS website for rotary tools.
Good luck
Gerald
