I also use an Edwards (2 stage) pump for my vacformer . I don't use a
secondary pump though but do use a vac tank of about 40 litres. That
little pump can pull the tank down to 28" hg (gauge reading) in about 30
seconds.

I also have a smaller Gast pump which I use for fixturing.
