I guess you mean the motors are 2.8A?

I think you will be fine with the 2.9K resistor.

Note that the specs call for a 2.8K 5% resistor, meaning it could actually measure anywhere from 2.66K to 2.94K ohms.

If you have a good ohmmeter, measure your 2.9K resistors, and select one that is on the low side of IT'S tolerance. For instance, if your resistors are 5% units, they can be anywhere from 2.755 to 3.045K ohms.
