I could not agree more with what you wrote.   In addition, even if you have a patent, defending it can also be an issue.
 
Now if you can arrange reliable time travel....................

I have considerable patent experience. If you do file for a patent, expect
to wait at least FIVE YEARS before the application is even reviewed by the
USPTO.

Personally I have concluded that unless you have a major world-changing
invention, as an individual it is a waste of time and money. If you cannot
build a business on your idea without a patent, a patent won't make any
difference.

I know it's OT but I figure there are a lot of people in this group who can
use this information.
