Look at Apple, iPod, iPads, iPhones.
Everyone else makes the same items that Apple has introduced and even thou they are X times more expensive, Apple maintains the leader in sales.

And I don't think their patents on all of those wonderful products are keeping the pirates at bay.

Name recognition is everything. A circular saw is known in most areas as a Skil saw, Soda Pop is called a Coke in alot of areas.
