If you did go the air grinder / die grinder route, be aware that these
devices consume large volumes of air. You would need an air compressor
capable of delivering a minimum continuous 4 cubic feet per minute at 90 psi
for the economical ones. It would also make your router a fixed machine
since a compressor that would deliver the required amount of air would be
rather large and not too portable. I have two compressors in my shop, one
is a "portable" Campbell Hausfeld 110VAC 5 Hp 20 gal on wheels. It isn't as
portable as one might think. You can roll it around within the shop but it
is rather heavy for lifting and carrying off site. This compressor would
NOT be large enough to do what you want to do. I doubt a Dremel flex shaft
would be a good idea, those are NOT designed for continuous operation so
they would fail fairly often. A Dremel Moto-Tool is not very heavy nor
bulky, can you not fabricate or purchase a bracket to simply mount a
Moto-Tool to the Z axis? I know of a number of hobby machines doing exactly
that with excellent results, as long as you are not looking for high
tolerances.

sold in the tool catalogs. I guess they have a tiny air motor and maybe a
