The Superior Electric Slo-Syn motors can be rewired very easily. Just
unsolder the leads from the plastic terminal board and remove it. You
will find the ends of all eight coils there for you to work with.

As to the inductance, the coils in both types of motors look the same (
same size wire, about the same number of turns).

If you can find used Superior Electric Slo-Syn synchronous motors at
1/10 the price on new steppers, it will be worth the time to rewire one
and try it.
