I read Tom Claude's document on his CAM / Controller search.
Tom,
Thanks for your compilation. Here is my take on your conclusion.
You begin by stating that you want to find a "Good quality Windows
based or Windows compatible CNC control".
You give winning marks to Deskam 2000, but it is not a controller
(which you already know). DeskNC is the controller offered by the same
people and it is DOS based and not Windows friendly. I like deskNC and
have run some short shots with the Demo.
I see that you conclude running MasterControlCNC as the controller
with Deskam2000 performing the conversions and toolpath editing. My
only skepticism is that I don't think you will get the performance out
of the controller that you need once you hook it up to a real system.
For torch cutting you will need fast feeds (150 ipm +) which you can
only get from a good controller or by sacrificing resolution with a slow
controller.
If you get MasterControlCNC up and running successfully on a real
system, then you have probably found an excellent solution.
