This has been possible with linux for some time - see the Beowulf project. I
believe a cluster of 80 or so linux computers were used in the making of the
film 'Titanic' (although my memory may have muddled the exact details a
bit). The standard kernel allows you to have support for multi-processors in
the one machine. The problem is - and would be on the Windows boxes, that
very few people have any idea how to write good software for multiple
independant processor systems.
