Yes, it IS being done. But, some of these people want MORE! What they
want is high speed motion with microstepping drives set to high step
division
factors. This greatly complicates the matter, as the step rate may need
to be
over 100 times higher! They also want great smoothness and velocity
resolution.
I think I've got Matt Shaver straightened out on what is practical and
will have some effect on the motors. 100 nS resolution is, most likely,

STILL overkill, but it is at least doable with a relatively cheap chip.
