Do not confuse resistance soldering with spot welding. I have both types.
The first one uses current to heat a part, for example a solder lug, and then solder and flux is added as usual. The American
Beauty tweezers type is a good example.

Spot welding clamps the two pieces together tightly and run sufficiently high current through the joint to melt the metal, hence
welding. There are big monster ones used in sheet metal shops and little baby ones. Typically just 1 volt or so and hundreds or
even thousands of amps AC. I have seen them with 1" diameter conductors!

For delicate work there is also units that uses a pulse discharge but it is much simpler to build and use the AC type.

Do not confuse this with stud-welders, they are a third type.
