I think you'll find vi to be awfully primitive, and difficult to use.

Yes, there is a DOS environment emulator under Linux. You can run
character-based DOS command-line programs. There is now supposed
to be a Windows emulator, now, too. But, opening DOS files is very
useful for transferring programs, source code, documents, machine tool
programs, etc.
