Hi All,

Thanks for the help. I have now mastered the art of mounting a floppy
and looking at its files etc. - even unzipping directories I have
downloaded from the 'net, however, so far I haven't actually been able
to make a program run (except for one which seemed to run 'accidentally'
as I untarred it and which instantly gummed up the works!). The next
step is to try to do the same with the CD ROM - I'm having no luck at
the moment. I did find a useful document called a 'System administrators
guide' on the net which gave me quite a bit of useful info -
unfortunately, I had been on so many sites that I have forgotten where
it came from but I will try and figure it out and let you know. Its
interesting that LINUX is so very similar to UNIX and not terribly
different from DOS as far as basic commands are concerned, I feel much
less threatened by it since I have started to play about with this cut
down system. Incidentally, it appears that the DRAGON LINUX 75 I am
using is basically the Slackware 2.0.34 build. It has 'vi' as a text
editor and 'Midnight Commander' as a File manipulator but that's about
it. I haven't yet figured out why you would want to open DOS files in
LINUX - will they run under this environment?
