Hans Wegner's books (3) on backyard blacksmithing and the making of
tools ( that's the link, Bill :-) we're talking 'bout makin' tools)
show how to make a very service-able anvil from rairoad rail. Books
are out of print, libraries have 'em. (good books)

Also, the artist blacksmith list on egroups has talked some about
this subject.
