buffer allocation for the ring buffer. I probably should dynamically
allocate then lock it, instead
I went the "easy" way and created a static buffer of 256k.
Perhaps the other unit is a little low on protected memory and can't
spare the 256k. I'll check into doing
it the "proper" way with a globalalloc function.
