No, it is reasonable. I used my Bridgeport milling machine to
cut grooves (dado's, in wood terminology) for a CD cabinet I made
out of Walnut. It fit together fantastically well! The horizontal
boards had already been planed to high accuracy by the hardwood
shop, so I made grooves in the vertical boards to match, with
about .001" clearance. That is the only high precision woodwork
I've done, but it was really neat to work wood to that precision.
