John,

Most of the lower cost commercial cnc routers use the Porter Cable 3.25HP
variable speed soft start router for wood working. On my system, I usually
make multiple passes at 1/4 inch maximum for quality cuts.

Speed is not as important to me as much as getting a good quality cut. Most
of my cuts require little or nor sanding. I like to run my cnc router at
about 100 to 120 IPM.
