We use disposable diamond engraving points, .100 dia. spherical, at
about 100,000 rpm (air motor hand piece like a dentist).

I guess the reason for spinning it at such a high speed is because the
diameter is so small. In fact if you have a pointed cutter the
theoretical cutting surface speed at the point is zero no matter how
fast you spin it.
