I was made a believer in aging engine blocks when I helped a friend mike the
piston bores of his 1970 vintage Volvo. As I recalled they aged the blocks
for one year. When we mike the bores, there were the original hone marks and
the wear was .0002. The block by the way had 120,000 miles on it. The cam
ground pistons were also nearly perfect. The only detectable wear was on the
camshaft do to some mechanic improperly adjustments of the valve stem
clearances.
