Alan and Jon,
There are all kinds of slide coying devices out there using digital
equipment. A refecting hood on a flatbed scanner has been replaced by
the cameras that are now able to focus to macro distances allowing adapters
to shoot slides directly.

BTW, I have a Nikon 950. BEST value for the money. Uses CF cards and NIMH
batts. I have gone on a 3 day weekend and still had power left in the 4 AA
batts. Pic download is instant with a card reader.
