Last project I did with the 5/8" McMaster ballscrews I tried a different
method on the ends that worked real well and save on the cost of the screw
material. Instead of machining the screw down to the diameter I needed, I
bored the screw out to just over 3/8". I machined my shaft end and left it
with a 3/8" stub on the end to connect to the screw. Coated the stub and the
hole in the screw with flux and sweated the joint with some 1100 deg F
silver solder that is easy to flow. Checked the alignment of the ends and it
only had about .005" of runout which was fine for my project.
