I have my ears open on this question. I am waiting for my lathe to
arrive with plans on CNC'ing it. There are some sites that offer
motors, but I to have not found how to size them. And the few sites
that do offer larger units don't list much detail.
I am still looking for details on stepper holding power vs using a
worm gear. Electical vs mechanical. It seems that the higher
mechanical holding power of a worm gear allows a lower required
holding power for the stepper. The trade off being slower speed
through the gears. But that seems to be a benefit in resolution.
But it could increase the error....
