1117 is a fairly free machining steel that can be carburized.
I'm machining a couple hundred pounds of it right now. EMJ was
the source, and it had to ship from back east, it's not something
commonly used much out here. The area rep stopped by the day the
material showed up, and he wanted to know what I was doing with it,
saying he didn't sell much of it any more.
