If you really insist on having the machine on skids, I'd recommend replacint
the wood skids with steel "H" beams.
You'd have the same easy to move capability and shouldn't lose anything in
the way of accuracy if you nstall some leveling bolts in the steel beams.

Alvey Conveyor (I used to work for them in St. Louis) always built their
pallet loading machines on skids. Made it really easy to move the machine
around...even if moving meant pushing on the skids with a fork lift truck.
