I haven't the faintest idea of the constructin of the machine you guys are
talking about, but if it has steel ways, I'd make the wear plates from
stress relieved cast iron. machining is easy and you won't have the warp
problem. Cast iron on steel has been an industrial "mainstay" for many many
many many years! Just be sure to put in some grease/oil grooves and an easy
method of getting lube to the grooves. You should be able to buy cast iron
sections suitable for machining to the shape you require.
