Dan,

You probably won't go too far wrong with a Sherline milling head.
Variable speed, lots of tooling, and relatively inexpensive.
If cost is an issue, then consider a milling head from Taig, or MaxNC.
But I'd try to use the sherline, if I were in your shoes...
