I don't know a lot about these Servo systems, but about 6 years ago I
looked at them as a possible retro for my Bridgeport.
The individual axis' can all be used independantly, as a simple power
feed even, but they can be programmed via the keypad to do simple
repetitive motions. I beleive this is really sort of a teach mode thing,
never had that demonstrated. But I think you could go through the moves
of flycutting something in the vise, jog the cutter back clear of the
part, rapid the X back to the start position, rapid the Y back, and
flycut another pass. There was an article on this system in a recent
trade magazine and they talked about how the shop started off in this
simple mode, letting everyone become comfortable with it. Then they
upgraded to the full PC control. I was under the impression that each
motor was more or less self contained however, didn't realize outside
boards were needed. Or maybe that's due to the full PC CNC integration
and needing tighter control over things.
Servo is still in business and going strong as far as I know.
Phone is 626-796-2460. I would think they could provide you with manuals
and docs for the hardware.

I did see a demo of the PC software, it was my first real exposure to
any sort of CAM program. it didn't seem very intuitive to me, but since
then I've seen far worse. <G> Dated, but functional would probably be a
fitting description. I looked at their retrofit kit a couple times, but
always had my doubts about the dual-use motors and how radically
different they are from anything else on the market. That's not to
demean the approach, I thought it looked funky and didn't want motors
hanging way out. (so what do I end up with, but a stepper driven mill
with direct drive motors hanging straight out...<G>)
