Hi Jon,

8 wires (assuming no tach or other funny stuff) should be good for
Bi-polar. What are the colors of the wires?

Yeah, I'd wonder about the meter. I have two Flukes, the old,old one, I
don't trust the AC voltage on any more. If you have another motor, read
it's windings, and draw them both out. You say 8 wires with two sets
soldered together? That *sounds* like you're saying 4 wires over to the
other 4 wires. OK, they are probably putting the windings in PARALLEL.
Still don't want to see shorts!
What scale and what resistance? You might try reading some KNOWN
resistors, that might also give you a little more familiarity with the
meter. Mine says 0L, or something, but it's AUTO-RANGED up to the MEG
scale. So it just means open (Fluke 89A, I think).
