I have ground glass with a diamond wheel running at high surface
speed, with water coolant manually applied. The coolant is important,
or the localized heating will cause the glass to crack. We were making
a straight-line Vee groove in glass, so we were able to use a 4" or so
disc with diamond in the edge. We tilted the mill head to 45 degrees,
and used power feed at about 1 IPM. If we used too much water, it
started spraying all over the place, if we used too little, the glass cracked.
It was pretty tricky. I think we did this at 4250 RPM on the 4" disc.

I would suppose that more complex patterns could be made with a
small diameter diamond coated point running at high speed, about
20,000 RPM or so.
