Hi, well i like to keep the voltage rating high for the actual working
voltage. it gives the bridge a chance to fight of the spikes that sometimes
come down the line. I fixed computer power supplies and monitors for most of
6 years and i find the 400 volt or less rated rectifier are the most
frequent failures especially if the current rating is only one amp above
actual drawn current.
So, 120 volt 4 amps load i would use a 600 to 900 volt package and 6 amps
minimum but even better to go for 8 amps. The square ones require a good
heat sink and so it wont hurt to use the higher voltage/amperage package. I
use 1000 volt 8 amp rectifiers for monitors whose average draw is 4 amps.
