I started using Amphenol / Cannon connectors. There is a plastic series
that is lower in cost than the military spec stuff. They have units with up
to 30 or 40 pins. They are more rugged and can take higher current levels. Of
course not all applications will allow this but converting to this type
whenever practical dispenses with the need for a DB-25 type connector [in CNC
cabinets anyway :)] .
