hi Jon;
the simplest and cheapest punch that you can make on
any size (within material and thickness limits can be done
on silver steel , with a couple alignment holes to put couple dowels pins
the hole distance can be anything from
the center distance of the screws of the D connector to
about 1" if it is too hard to make the punch with the holes
included just make the template for the holes so you can
drill them were you want , then on your punch and die
put two holes with the same center distance as the one on
your template, fit a dowel of the same size ( .001 clearance fit ) align the
punch and die with them , put
the whole thing on your vise and punch your D connector
if it is too hard to punch just sharpen the punch on two
angles.
