ARRGH! Well, I understand why EMC no longer works, as the compile
script removes all the executables before attempting to replace them
with newer ones. So, if the compile fails, you will no longer have a running
EMC. There is a way to save all the executables in a parallel directory
structure with a different name, so you can work on one version while
keeping the old one usable.

But, as for why you can't compile, I think Paul Corner would have to be the
best person to answer this. It was SUPPOSED to be able to recompile.
