I must have missed the part about you using an IBM ThinkPad. The problems
with the parallel port on them is why I don't use one myself. I had 2 of
them and found out the same thing, it is a pain to use anything except a
printer on them. Even when setting the port to unidirectional on the 2 I had
they would not read a security key for my Licom CAD/CAM program, but it
worked on every other computer I used. This well may be your problem.
