As a gunsmith and machine retired machine designer, methinks it would be
much easier and cheaper to build your machine so as to contol the lead
mechanically rather than electronically. This would also guarantee
following the reverse path exactly as well as eliminate the need for a
computer or any programming. All you'd need in the way of electronics would
be an on/off switch and a couple of limit switches for travel.
I posted a design someplace earlier this year (don't remember exactly which
site I posted it on) for an attachment that could be mounted on a standard
lathe for building a rifiling machine.
