Brad: I have been contemplating a similar endeavor but using a lathe.
But I believe that you may be onto an easier solution. Using your rotary
indexer to turn the tool and the barrel stock held in place on a milling
machine table. I would connect the indexer as the Y axis and feed the
barrel as the X axis. The g-code could be generated by drawing a
straight line that is inclined at the appropriate angle to give the
amount of twist desired.The controller will follow that angle but
instead of moving the table as Y axis it will be turning the indexer.
Seems relatively simple and would save me the hassle of attaching a
step/direction motor to the spindle of my lathe.
Does this make sense to you? Carey
