No, this won't work. it will reduce the idling speed of the router, but it
will
also cut the torque to nil. A Variac will work fairly well, as it keeps
constant
voltage under load. I think some of the router companies sell speed regulators

that the router plugs into.

Optical tachs won't work too well, either, as the dust will blind the photocell

in a minute or two.
