If you use servos, there ARE no steps to miss! Power is applied to the motor
until current
exceeds a fault limit (like when you drive it into the stops) or the error
becomes zero.
Yes, the Gecko drive has a fault signal that can be sensed by the computer.

Why not just make the feed high enough to get the proper cutting action?
