I have removed NEMA 23 frame and 34 frame steppers from a variety of old,
large printers. A Toshiba 24 pin DM printer yielded two NEMA 23's, the
stepper that drove the print head was of lower voltage and higher amperage
than the one driving the paper feed. An old IBM mainframe printer gave three
nice NEMA 34's of reasonable performance.

Another source for 23 frame steppers is old HP flatbed plotters. I'm using
two of these to drive the X and Y axes on a small home made router table.
These motors are particularly nice because they have oil filled
anti-resonance dampers mounted on the shaft that comes out the back side of
the motor. They can be run in full-step mode without the resonance problems
that have led me to run my other machines in half-step mode.

I've also bought several 23 and 34 frame steppers from eBay, there are
usually several for sale at any given time. I haven't looked for servo motors
but I suspect that they could be found there also.....
